Today the New Jersey Devils have lost a major part of their team to a significant injury.

Devils Announce Major Injury To Key Defenseman



The New Jersey Devils announced today that they have placed defenseman Dougie Hamilton on Injured Reserve.

#NEWS: We have placed D Dougie Hamilton (torn left pectoral muscle)on Injured Reserve, retro to Nov. 28. He is out indefinitely.


F Tomas Nosek (right foot) re-aggravated his injury, underwent surgery and will be out indefinitely.


The Devils will be without one of their top options on defense for a significant amount of time now. In a corresponding move, the Devils continued their youth movement on defense by calling up a top prospect.

Around when the Hamilton injury was announced it was also confirmed that the Devils' top defensive prospect Simon Nemec would be getting called up. Since being called up it was confirmed he will make his NHL debut tonight against the San Jose Sharks.

The Penguins don't play the Devils again until March so they might not see Nemec in action or the absence of Hamilton first hand. However, the impact of such a good player leaving the Devils lineup could help the Penguins in their pursuit of a playoff birth.
