The Carolina Hurricanes were facing elimination last night at MSG when a former Penguin forward carried them to victory, and it is not who you think it would be.
Jordan Staal started his career in Pittsburgh and spent six years with the club as the third line center, winning the cup in 2009. Now, at 35 and as captain of the Hurricanes, Staal showed that he can still bring it when needed in the playoffs. The Canes were down 3-0 in this series and it looked like the Rangers had it in the bag. With a win in Carolina for Game 4, and facing elimination at MSG down 1-0 in the third, Staal took a pass from Dmitry Orlov and fought his way to the goal to score.

After this game tying goal, the Hurricanes did not look back, as they scored three more unanswered goals to win 4-1 in New York, taking a Game 6 back home to hopefully tie the series.
Staal talked to Sportsnet Shawn McKenzie after the game and talked about the teams resilience.
«We're living to fight another day.»
This was Staal's first goal this postseason, and only his second point as well. Fellow former Penguin Jake Guentzel has 9 points in his 10 games this post-season.
One thing to note for Penguins fans, if the Hurricanes are able to come back and go to the finals, the Penguins will have their second-round pick received for Guentzel bump up to a first-round pick, something they could use.
The Hurricanes will host the NY Rangers for Game Six of the series on Thursday night, with the puck set to drop at 7pm EST.
