At the end of Game 3 in Edmonton last night, Connor McDavid received a brutal one, two crosscheck from first Nikita Zadorov and then Carson Soucy behind the net.
It was after the buzzer, and Vancouver had the game won to take a 2-1 series lead when Zadorov and Soucy destroyed McDavid, first with a cross check from behind to collapse him into a cross check to the throat/face from Soucy. It has been alleged that this was in a retaliation to a McDavid slash in the third period, but this type of hit takes it too far. It is no surprise that the Department of Player Safety will be reviewing this hit on McDavid.
On JayonRait last night, TSN director of scouting Craig Button had some strong words for the hit on McDavid.
"If the Department of Player Safety does not suspend Carson Soucy, they have failed in doing their job and applying supplemental discipline. No other decision is acceptable."
The Oilers have had an up and down series against Vancouver and even back to the first round where they were exceptional when McDavid was on his game, and average when he was not.
We will have to wait to see what the league decides to do again Soucy or even both of the Canucks who were involved in the hit after the buzzer. Of course there are opposing views from fans who don't believe anything was done wrong here.
Looks like there could be some possible disciplinary action for one of the players involved. According to Elliotte Friedman, Carson Soucy will face a hearing that involved that hit on McDavid last night.
Game four is set for Tuesday May 14th in Edmonton with a 9:30EST start.
