A look back at Penguins Drew O'Connor's journey to the NHL

Drew O'Connor, Pittsburgh Penguins' forward is playing his 100th career game in Tampa tonight, and Penguins team Reporter Michelle Crechiolo shared a touching story about his journey to the NHL.

Forward Drew O'Connor's journey to the NHL and how he got there

Growing up, Drew O'Connor's goal was originally to play college hockey and he made this a reality, suiting up for Dartmouth College for two seasons.


O'Connor is proving to be a talented forward who knows how to get involved on offence and remain responsible in his own end.

Drew achieved his goal of playing in the NHL in the 2020 season, during COVID. Now his fondest hockey memory is still getting to play with the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

His parents spoke to Michelle prior to his debut and told her a multitude of stories about Drew as his hockey career progressed. It was ultimately his love for the game that carried him to the NHL.

This season it looks as if Drew O'Connor will remain with the NHL club as he has looked sharp so far this season. Most recently playing on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and Reilly Smith (two stanley cup champions).

We appreciate stories like these and hope Drew continues to perform at the NHL level.
