NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman Confirms That The New York Rangers Placed Former Penguin Nick Bonino On Waivers to Terminate his Contract

According to insider Elliotte Friedman, the former Pittsburgh Penguins player Nick Bonino could have already played his last NHL game.


Indeed, he was placed on waivers by the New York Rangers for contract termination purposes.

"Nick Bonino (NYR) on unconditional waivers for purposes of contract termination"


Bonino, 35, will be a free agent and could join another team before the trade deadline. This season, in 45 games with the Rangers, the center scored five points, including one goal.

Drafted 173rd overall in 2007 by the San Jose Sharks, he spent a bit more than two seasons in Pittsburgh during his fifteen-year NHL career. He also played for the Ducks, Canucks, Predators, Wild and Rangers.
