Major Changes Coming to the Penguins Power Play? Reports Emerge That Absolutely Nothing is Off the Table
There are many reasons that suggest why the Penguins are struggling to climb into the playoffs this season, their biggest issue? Their Powerplay.
The numbers for Pittsburgh
The Penguins have only scored in 19 out of 137 attempts on the powerplay, they sit in the bottom 5 of the NHL. With guys like Guentzel, Crosby, Rust, Malkin and Karlsson, these numbers make no sense and should not be the case.
It seemed like it was improving until the last two games the Penguins went 0-4 both times. Jake Guentzel in an interview brought up the struggles.
«They're a good penalty-kill, so they make it tough out there,» Jake Guentzel said after the Penguins' practice Sunday at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. «But more of it's on us, that we have to make the right decisions and not force things.»
Sullivan isn't ruling out anything
The Penguins coach isn't ruling out anything when it comes to fixing the team's powerplay. A special teams coaching change may even happen.
«We're always considering those things,» Sullivan said. «We always consider personnel changes, with respect to every facet of our game. That's never off the table.»
The Powerplay struggles need to be put to an end if the Penguins want any chance in playing hockey after April.
More details to come.
