Penguins Shake Up Powerplay After Another Poor Performance
Penguins Searching for Answers Regarding Brutal PP Performance
After another scoreless power play effort on Saturday night, Mike Sullivan seems to have made another change to the powerplay units.Fans have shared their emotions about these changes, while some think the second unit looks bad, others are at a point where they just want to see some results.
The major change here is to put Letang back on the first unit with Karlsson. This more traditional approach of 2 D may help the Penguins generate more opportunities on the PP.
Both defencemen have elite shots, and if some traffic could be generated out front, we may see more success.
The Root of the Penguins Problem Seems to be the Powerplay
Although they seemingly have no trouble drawing penalties, it seems like Penguins are unable to score on the man advantage. With a group so talented, this is simply unacceptable.
A breakdown of the numbers can be found below:
The Penguins Powerplay since November 1st: 2/36
By my calculations, the last time the Penguins scored a powerplay goal was during their 10-2 hammering of the Sharks early in November.
This all begs the question, what needs to change to fix this?
