Perfect Opportunity Arises for Erik Karlsson to Improve his Play
A rather disappointing start to his high expected debut season with the Pittsburgh Penguins after being acquired in a late summer blockbuster for Erik Karlsson. The reigning Norris winner is given a huge opportunity here to hit the reset button with the All star break arriving and his team being off for the next week or so.
Time to Rest Erik
The Swede needs to use these days to rest the body as he is 34 years old and his body isn't the same as 2014-15 Karlsson with the Senators. Number 65 with the Pens has 34 points in 46 games, a rather slow start compared to his standards. The defenseman hit 100 points last year with the struggling San Jose Sharks.
Despite being on a 10 game point streak, his production isn't a sole factor. The rest of his play has caused fans to be frustrated with him and he has even been taken off PP1 for the Penguins as a result of his play.
Penguins need refreshed Karlsson for the final stretch
If the Penguins want to play games in May, Karlsson needs to be apart of the greatness in this group, not just offensively, but his positioning and defensive play off the puck needs to improve to give this team any chance at postseason action.
More details to come.
