Pittsburgh Media Member Says the Penguins Shouldn't Rebuild
Discussion on the Penguins Future
The Penguins are the oldest team in the NHL currently and frankly, most nights it shows. Sid as always is the outlier of the team, but someday even he will start to slow down unfortunately. The window for cup contention is clearly closing, if it hasn't already been slammed shut. This leaves GM Kyle Dubas in an interesting situation, should he blow it up and completely undergo a rebuild, or should he opt for the more conservative 'retool'. It seems that the majority of fans have stated that a rebuild is what the Penguins need, Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now has another idea.
Rebuild or Retool?
As mentioned above, Kingerski thinks that Dubas is better off 'retooling' rather than completely rebuilding and having a fire sale. His reasoning is that the ownership group wouldn't want that to happen as it could have a serious effect on the margins of the team and season ticket sales. His quote can be found below.
The Penguins might get to rock bottom with or without trying. But they might also avoid it. Being stuck in the middle isn't necessarily a death sentence. Stanley Cups can be won without having the best player in the game.
Just because a team stinks doesn't mean success is imminent, and raging against the dying of the light doesn't guarantee terminal failure.
This is real life, not Xbox. The human and financial costs, which don't exist in the video game world, are the very reasons Dubas can't hit the reset button now and probably won't.

I think I agree with him, but regardless Kyle Dubas' job will not be an easy one, he's got many difficult decisions ahead. As long as Sid is on the team, anything can happen.
Details to follow.
