Tristan Jarry Speaks Out About Goaltending Battle In Pittsburgh
Two goaltenders batting for the number one spot is nothing new in Pittsburgh. Most recently, we can all remember Jarry and DeSmith taking turns between the pipes. And who can forget when Matt Murray stepped up and dethroned Marc-Andre Fluery back in 2017, going on to win the Stanley Cup.
Once again the Penguins seem to be playing duel goaltending with both Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic taking their turns. To start the season Jarry was clearly the number one guy. But Nedeljkovic has made a case for himself finding himself in a good rhythm, and in return, getting 8 out of the last 11 starts.Alex Nedeljkovic has mentioned that both goalies want to do everything they can to give the team a chance to win. After last night's OT loss to Vancouver, Jarry got to have his say, when Alex Nedeljkovic was pulled after one period and he came in to hold down the fort and help the team get 1 point.
«It's whoever is getting points,» Jarry said. «I think he's been playing great. Obviously, he's a great goaltender.»
Both Netminders have put up similar numbers this year. Nedeljkovic has played in less games (15) but has a 8-3-2 record with with a .916 save percentage and 2.66 goals against average.
Jarry was goaltender on record last night and currently has a .913 save percentage and 2.56 goals against average. He is 11-12-3 this season, many of those losses were early in the season when the Pens were not providing much goal support.
«Whoever's playing well, I think, should be playing,» Jarry said. «I think that's the way it's been going. He's done a great job.»
«I think we have a great relationship. «We're pushing each other, and I think that helps us be at our best.»

Head Coach Mike Sullivan seems to be the perfect puppetmaster in making the right decision recently with who to start.
When recently asked about who will start the game and how that decision is made by Pens Inside Scoop reporter Michelle Crechiolo, Sullivan added,
"When we're making decisions with respect to lineups, we're always trying to ask the question, which lineup gives us the best chance to win? We think Ned's playing extremely well right now, and he's deserving of playing."

One thing is for sure, both goalies have the faith of their team and faith in themselves, that they can get the job done.
