The Pittsburgh Penguins find themselves is an non ideal position heading closer to the Trade Deadline. They are stuck in one of those positions where you are either a fringe playoff team or just out of the playoffs, and drafting 16th overall. This leads them with one question, What will they do with Pending UFA Jake Guentzel?

These two teams should be all over Guentzel

The Edmonton Oilers are a team who should be or should've already called Kyle Dubas and asked for a starting price for the American forward. Adding Guentzel to that fold in the top 6 would make the Oilers one of the most legit forward cores in the NHL. Having a top 6 consisting of Mcdavid, Draisaitl, Kane, Hyman, RNH and Guentzel already puts you as a favorite in the Western Conference. They are projected to have 4 million dollars in cap space heading into the deadline, and while Guentzel has a cap hit of 6 million, they can convince the Penguins to either retain salary or offload a contract. A potential trade proposal can be the following.

TRADE PROPOSAL

Oilers recieve: Jake Guentzel (25 % retained)

Penguins recieve: 2024 1st round pick, Dylan Holloway, Philip Broberg, 3rd round pick in 2024.

Number one in the West acquiring the Number one trade target?

The Canucks have emerged as an elite team this season with the rise of Pettersson, Miller, Hughes and company, they have shown that they are a legit team, sitting 1st in the NHL going into the All Star Break. Why waste an amazing season and not look into adding another elite forward like Guentzel? This may be their best chance at winning Lord Stanley. A potential trade can look like this.

TRADE PROPOSAL

Canucks recieve: Jake Guentzel (50% retained)

Penguins recieve: 2024 1st round pick, Andrei Kuzmenko, Hunter Brzustewicz and a 4th round pick in 2025

More details to come.
