The Pittsburgh Penguins faced adversity in their set of games Friday and Saturday night. They faced the 2nd best team in the Atlantic, the Florida Panthers. The surging young Montreal Canadians were next on the list, making for two tough matchups.

Penguins Gather Crucial Points for Playoff Race

The Penguins gathered 3 out of 4 points in two crucial tests over the weekend. Losing in overtime fashion vs the dominant Florida Panthers, the Penguins bounced back after coming back from two deficits against the Montreal Canadiens, and eventually winning in OT thanks to Marcus Pettersson. The Penguins now sit with 51 points and only 6 points behind a wildcard spot and a 3rd place spot in the Metro.

Boost of Optimism for Pens Heading into the Break

Before Friday, Penguins fans felt discouraged as they began believing that their team would not make it to the Postseason. Thanks to their performance in the two most recent games, the race is still on.

With the struggling Flyers who hold 3rd in the Metro currently on a 5 game losing streak, the Penguins have to build on that momentum and continue to win games from now until the deadline. Dubas has the next month to evaluate the Penguins squad according to their position in the standings.

More details to come.
