Kyle Dubas Should Target this Forward from State Rival
The Penguins Playoff Hopes Coming Down the Stretch
The Penguins are not out of the race yet, however the road to the playoffs will not be an easy one. The biggest recurring issue this season has been the terrible power play, however the Penguins have had trouble scoring even strength as well. The Flyers are reportedly shopping forward Scott Laughton and he could be an excellent addition to Pittsburgh's forward core.Laughton has looked good for the Flyers this season with 20 points over 52 games. He would slot in nicely on the Penguins bottom 6, and would be an upgrade over most of the forwards playing on the 3rd and 4th line right now.
His cap hit is $3M, which would be manageable if there was some money going out in a deal.
Kyle Dubas has History with Laughton
According to Eliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Kyle Dubas was close to acquiring Laughton during his time in Toronto. We also know that Dubas likes to acquire players that he is familiar with, so I wouldn't think a trade for Laughton would be out of the question.
The trade deadline is less than a month away now, and we will watch intently to see what GM Kyle Dubas does.
More to come.
