With the trade deadline still a month away, teams have already got ahead of the market and went to acquire the forwards they feel will help their team. Teams like Vancouver and Winnipeg have made splashes to get their guys ahead of their respective playoff runs by acquiring Elias Lindholm and Sean Monahan, but another Western Canadian team is waiting on a decision regarding Penguins forward.

Oilers will be favorites to land Guentzel if made available

Before landing Lindholm, the Canucks were a close team to monitor regarding Jake Guentzel and the Pittsburgh Penguins situation, but with them already getting their guy, that sets them out of the equation, leaving more leg room for the Edmonton Oilers. In Elliotte Friedman's 32T podcast, he brought up the idea of the Oilers acquiring Guentzel if made available.

"If Guentzel is available, my opinion is that's their guy, that's the guy they'd like to get"

Dubas has insisted that the Penguins' intentions are to keep Jake Guentzel with them reportedly giving Guentzel two offers in which he rejected both. The Penguins GM has a month to tidy things up on the contract front or else they will be left with no choice to shop him around before the famous March 8th deadline.

Keep an eye out for the Edmonton Oilers if Guentzel hits the trade bait list, they want to make a splash and the American may be the best person and fit to do it.

Can you imagine Jake Guentzel on a line with Connor Mcdavid and Zach Hyman?

More details to come.
