After finishing only a few points from taking the last playoff spot, the Penguins ended their season in disappointment and confusion. Yet, it seems much of Pittsbiurgh's issue now lies in a power struggle between their head coach and general manager.
With the team's season over, many Pittsburgh fans are concerned about the team's chance of success in the next year. While many may look to the team roster for chances of improvement, it appears much of the discussion has shifted to the Penguins' leadership. According to recent reports from Frank Seravalli, there is currently a power struggle between head coach Mike Sullivan and general manager Kyle Dubas."Right now, there's a power struggle ongoing between Kyle Dubas and Mike Sullivan, where I believe Kyle Dubas has said to Mike Sullivan 'We need to change out your staff. Need to get rid of some assistants,' and Mike Sullivan has essentially said 'If you want to fire my assistants, then you're going to have to fire me.'"
Seravalli then discussed the possibility of joining the New Jersey Devils, a rumor that has previously made waves through the hockey community. However, there has been no real chance for Sullivan to talk with the team.

With rumors of potential team movement circulating, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared his thoughts on a recent edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast. In this, he discloses that answers on Sullivan's status with both teams have changed recently, and could result in a tampering investigation.
"From the latest Friedman 32 thoughts podcast:
He also says that he thought Sullivan would stay in Pittsburgh but he's getting different answers on it now. If he ends up in New Jersey there's going to be a tampering investigation Friedman concludes."

With the NHL playoffs taking the forefront, it could be a while before more updates on Mike Sullivan's future with Kyle Dubas and the Penguins remains in question. Hopefully whoever Pittsburgh ends up with will give them a better chance at team success next season.
