Friday night's defeat reveals a lot about the Pens' power play
The Pens are clearly going through tough times right now. Defeat against Carolina, lost to Detroit after lowing a 4 goals lead and then lost to the Devils even though they gave the Pens 16 minutes of power play. This stat line is very surprising to see from the Pens, since they've been so good in PP during December. Even the team's stars made weird decisions during the game, leading to easy goals by the Devils, basically giving them the win. They are now sitting with 44 pts, ex-aequo with NY Rangers and NY Islanders, and one of the three teams won't make the playoffs.
On paper, that game wasn't even that bad, but the Pens keep on giving away free goals while not taking golden opportunities in game, and they'll have to work on that.
