News: NHL considers adding 2 games to the regular season schedule
The NHL is considering expanding the regular season to 84 games to create more "regional rivalry matchups". The league has received a lot of backlash about an unbalanced number of games against rivals. The topic is expected to be discussed at the general managers' meeting in March 2023.
We can view this as an attempt to create rivalry across the league. It's nothing new, since the 1992-1993 season as well as the 1993-1994 were 84 games seasons! Many people say this isn't a good idea and that the league should shorten the season to give more rest to the players, since two additional games obviously involve more traveling...
