Watch: Malkin beats Ullmark at the end of the 3rd to tie things up, but not before the clock...
The Pens played some good hockey today during the Winter Classic... until they had an energy outage. DeSmith played good for the time he was there; he made a couple key saves and kept the Pens sharp, giving them the possibility to win.
Near the end of the third, the Bruins were pushing intensely in the Pens' zone, and it seems like the Pens ran out of gas. The Bruins scored with 2:24 remaining in regulation time. As the Penguins needed to score, they pulled Casey DeSmith for a sixth skater and the Pens were only a second short of making it a tie...Malkin scored but unfortunately, no time was left on the clock. The Bruins are pursuing their incredible stat line of zero regulation-time loss at home since the beginning of the season. This is the Pens' fifth loss in a row, which hadn't happened since late October/early November. Many fans are putting this one on Sully, because the players were exhausted at the end of the third, so maybe a better management of the ice-time would've helped the player stay sharp, even with only a few minutes remaining.
