Penguins GM Kyle Dubas won't admit it, but one of his first trades as GM of his new team, has and will be the reason the Penguins are set back for the present and future.

I think Dubas and management would be lying if they said they don't regret the Erik Karlsson trade. It hasn't been a pretty season in Pittsburgh.

Erik Karlsson trade proving to be a disaster

Erik Karlsson hasn't been terrible for Pittsburgh, in fact he has improved defensively compared to last year, despite his lack of production compared to last years' Norris campaign where he put up 101 points with the 30th place San Jose Sharks.

In the end, the Penguins are probably not making the playoffs, and if it stays like this, the Pens won't even have a first round pick as it was apart of the Erik Karlsson deal. According to tankathon, the Penguins are expected to pick at 13th overall, but because of the trade, it belongs to San Jose as it was only top 10 protected. Which means the Penguins would have to fall back even more to be drafting with their pick, and would cause a disaster because then there 2025 first round pick would belong to San Jose, and it is safe to assume the Penguins will continue to fall off the cliff with the years to come.
