After a very timely win against the Washington Capitals, the Pittsburgh Penguins find themselves even closer to a playoff spot.

Leading up to last night's clash with Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, tensions were very high as the game represented a lot for both teams.

After the win, the Penguins remain 2 points back of a playoff spot, which just a few weeks ago felt utterly impossible.

Inconsistent play has haunted the Penguins this season, but their current playoff chances sit at roughly 20% according to moneypuck.com.

Although their odds of making it are ever increasing, a difficult test still remains ahead of them.

They've got games against the Lightning, Maple Leafs, Bruins, Red Wings, Predators and Islanders, so they will have to rise to the occasion to earn enough points against these opponents.

Difficult, not impossible

The Penguins also have the benefit of holding the tiebreaker over each of the teams vying for the same spot.

Many important games on the horizon, stay tuned.
