There is no denying the fact that the Pittsburgh Penguins are in a tough position. The next couple of years could define the franchise for years to come.
Penguins Reporter Calls Out Team For Fighting Against Reality
Since the trade deadline has passed, conversations about the Penguins have picked up. The team made a major move in trading Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes. Was this the first move in a rebuild? Or will the team look to reload in the offseason, looking to make the playoffs again in 2025? It seems like the later option is more likely, but many fans and media members alike think this is a bad idea. Penguins reporter Mark Madden called out the organization for clinging to the past, likely hurting the team's future.
"Crosby, Malkin and Letang have no desire to play for another coach. As ranking veterans, they carry clout. So, nothing will change. The coach won't change. The key personnel won't change. The method won't change. The rest is relatively insignificant. President of hockey ops/GM Kyle Dubas is in a rough spot."
Madden is not the only one calling out Kyle Dubas for the Penguins' current state of affairs. Former NHL defenseman turned analyst PK Subban also shared his opinion on how the new GM of the team is doing.
That being said, Dubas is in a very unique and truly unwinnable position.
Dubas Makes Inconsistent Claims About Penguins Future
The general manager appears to be doing everything he can to appease both sides. He has not committed to anything yet, and truthfully, only he knows what the real plans for the team are. It is very possible that the organization has not decided what direction they want to go yet. This would make sense, given Dubas' inconsistent position on the future of the team.
Kyle Dubas: "In my role, there's going to be a lot of times where you have to do things that people will question; that people will think are unpopular... But the goal, the job, has to be all the time about winning in the long run."
Regardless of what comes next, it will be very impactful on the future of the team.
As seen on Mark Madden: Without changes at the top, Penguins will stagnate
