The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to face off vs the New York Islanders in a crucial matchup between divisional rivals. Both teams are in a similar boat as they sit outside the wildcard spot by quite a bit of points and need to scavange as many wins as possible ahead of the trade deadline. At Pens morning skate, coach Mike Sullivan announced his starter ahead of the important clash.
Nedeljkovic named starter versus Islanders
In 18 games this season, Nedeljkovic has a 9-4-3 record, a 2.54 goals against average, a .919 save percentage and one shutout.
Over Ned's career, the netminder is 3-0-0 versus the Islanders and has posted a .933 save percentage throughout that span. Amazing vote of confidence by the Pens head coach considering the importance this game holds.
Important to note that the Penguins have called up Marcus Hellberg over the weekend as Sullivan announced that one of Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic were feeling under the weather but declined to mention which one. What we do know is that Tristan Jarry is healthy enough that he will be backing up Nedeljkovic tonight.
The starter for the Islanders is expected to be Ilya Sorokin. Sorokin has a .910 save percentage and a 16-12-11 record throughout 39 starts.
