The Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 last night at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, falling for two straight losses in two days. On friday, the Pens lost to the Minnesota Wild, by one goal again 3-2. They only have themselves to blame, and their infuriating powerplay.
So close yet so far for Penguins and their losses
The Penguins have lost 26 times this season, and over 50% of their losses have been by one goal. In an interesting stat, they lost 14 games by only one goal and during that span, their powerplay went 6 for 56 when it mattered the most to create an equalizer.
The Penguins have tried to adjust their power play by shaking things up after being ranked in the bottom 5 for the NHL's worst Power Plays. They recently demoted Evgeni Malkin and Erik Karlsson to their second powerplay unit in hopes of balancing their lines to try and get a goal out of it. It is yet to work in Pittsburgh and may have to switch things up on the special teams staff. If the Penguins keep on losing these crucial games, they will fall out of the playoffs.
Time is ticking and losses are now limited if the Penguins want any chance of making the postseason and their powerplay will have a loud voice in that.
More details to come.
