An Immensely Disappointing Season Nears it's End

If you would have asked me where I thought the Penguins would be at this point in the season this summer, I wouldn't have mentioned anything about the draft lottery. I predicted that the Penguins would have at least been in the mix for the playoff race. However, as the season as progressed things have grown darker and it has lead to this point.

The Penguins have a chance to land Macklin Celebrini

Not a big one, but if they remain the 10th worst team in the NHL they will at least have a chance.


Although the locker room reportedly hasn't given up hope, things have looked rough over the latest stretch of games.

According to the latest from Tankathon, the Penguins have approximately a 3.5% chance at netting the first overall pick who is almost certainly going to be Celebrini.



It's also very important to note that the first rounder that the Penguins dealt in the Erik Karlsson deal is top-10 protected which means that Dubas can opt to use the pick this year, thus turning next year's first into an unprotected pick.



Even if the Penguins don't get a player like Celebrini, the top 10 in this draft is very strong and a lot of the players have potential to be key pieces in the impending Pittsburgh rebuild.

Or they could be Sid's new linemate.
