The Pittsburgh Penguins lost a lead on Sunday and nearly lost forward Noel Acciari for a while due to injury.

They had a solid 4-0 lead on Sunday in Colorado, but then it evaporated as the Avalanche rallied for a 5-4 win in overtime. During the third period, the Penguins dropped a tweet saying forward Noel Acciari wouldn't be returning to the ice. Turns out, he was getting checked out for a lower-body injury.

Tough break for him, especially after playing just eight shifts and clocking in under five minutes of ice time against the Avalanche before the collapse occurred.

Penalties and Injuries Pile Up as Penguins Lose Acciari in Crushing Defeat:

Acciari's had a rough season with the Penguins, dealing with a bunch of injuries. Out of the 70 games this season, he's only made it into 55. When healthy, he's a solid defensive center, especially for the bottom six. He's chipped in four goals and three assists, making him a valuable player, especially on the penalty kill.

Now, we're left wondering how long Acciari will be out of action. To make matters worse, the Penguins are already missing Jeff Carter, who's been sidelined with an upper-body injury for the last three games.

Hopefully he'll be back in action soon, especially with the next game against the surging Carolina Hurricanes coming up on Tuesday.
