Despite only arriving in Pittsburgh a matter of weeks ago, young forward Matthew Phillips is officially done with the organization.

Washington Capitals claim Matthew Phillips

He showed flashes in the AHL with the Calgary Flames organization, but Phillips has now failed to catch on with three teams, as the Penguins now lose him on waivers back to the Washington Capitals.

Washington (re)claims Matthew Phillips off waivers from Pittsburgh.

In three games with the Penguins, Phillips, the 25-year old forward struggled to catch on with the team, tallying 0 goals and 0 assists in limited ice time.

Now, he's been claimed once more by the Washington Capitals, for whom he had one goal and four assists with in 27 games played this season. Ultimately, the Penguins just didn't have room for him, as his size clearly diminishes the talent he has at the NHL level, so we will now see if his second stint with the Capitals can be an eventful one.
