Insider Hints at Possibility of Erik Karlsson Returning to Canada

This past summer, the Pittsburgh Penguins made the blockbuster move to get Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks, but less than a season into life in Pittsburgh, the rumours have begun surrounding his future in the NHL.

Insider hints that a reunion for Karlsson could be in the works

With former Karlsson teammate Daniel Alfredsson behind the bench as an assistant, it appears as though the Ottawa Senators could be a realistic option for Karlsson.

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, if there's any team in the NHL that would look into a trade for Karlsson, as well as having the need for him, it is the Senators.



With three-years left on the deal that's paying him $11.5 million annually, even the Senators may look the other way on a deal, but if they wish to make the leap from the basement in the Atlantic Division to potential playoff threats, he could be the type of offensive weapon they need.

The Penguins need to make a move too, as they moved off Jake Guentzel at the deadline and could possibly be moving towards a rebuild, and if that's the case, any type of asset in return for the veteran would be fantastic.

Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, the season is essentially over before April even arrives, and with so many looking towards the summer, it's safe to say that this is going to be a massive talking point around the league going forward.
