The Pittsburgh Penguins are known as the "Grandparents" of the NHL, having many older players and are actually ranked the oldest team in the league. When it came to adding forwards to their roster, the Penguins had the tendancy to add solidified veterans who have a proven track record of scoring goals. In his recent press conference, Kyle Dubas has admitted that his team plans to change their history when it comes to adding forwards to their aging team.

Dubas taking the young route

In his recent press conference, GM Kyle Dubas kept emphasizing that the roster needs to start adding some youth, as their core and roster is beginning to age.

«One of the issues we have is we need to get younger,» Dubas said. «We have a lot of guys in their 30s signed.»

Since then to prove his point that he is leaning towards that path, they signed Jesse Puljujarvi to a two-year contract, and has claimed 25 year old Matthew Phillips from the Washington Capitals via waivers.

We would not believe that the Penguins are done here, as they have some players they can potentially offload at the March 8th NHL Trade deadline, who can get them back some young pieces. For example, pending UFA Jake Guentzel can easily fetch them exactly what Dubas is trying to achieve, which is a draft pick and some prospects.
