The Penguins have been a roller coaster team all year, and these last few games are no exception. The powerplay looked good and they have build two wins in a row before what could be a tough road trip out to western Canada. Any loses can be hard on their playoff chances.
We have heard GM Kyle Dubas talk about the core guys on the team and that he is listening to calls and options for just about everyone else.
«I have not asked any player to waive their no-move or no-trade,» Dubas said. «It's a gigantic game of poker.»
And as insider Elliotte Friedman pointed out, that can result in some limitations. Any time a player has a no move or no trade clause in their contract, that can make things tricker. Dubas has stated that he does not plan toask anyone to waive that clause.
As Friedman noted;
«The cornerstone players are not available. I've heard that they are going to try and respect trade protection as much as they can.»

A No Trade Clause Does Not Guarantee Safety from a Possible Trade
The Penguins do have a handful of guys with a clause in their contract. Guys like Marcus Pettersson, Bryan Rust who the Penguins have no plans on dealing.
Then you have guys like Rickard Rakell and Reilly Smith who also have clauses, but their names have been out there to trade.
Smith has a no trade clause to 10 specific teams, and Rakell to 8. So, it is not impossible to trade them outside of those teams. Someone like Guentzel, also with a clause, has 12 teams on his list.
Even while respecting everyone's trade clauses, there is still room to move these guys. And you also have options like P.O. Joseph and Lars Eller who are without any limitations.
We will see what direction Dubas decides to go as the deadline gets closer.
