Rookie defenseman Jack St. Ivany impresses teammates and coaches with his recent play since being called up from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins

Jack St. Ivany has now had three games under his belt at the NHL level. When he was called up from Wilkes-Barre Scranton before the game against Dallas it was thought he might finally get his first start. He did, and it was the pre-game rookie skate that was on his mind hoping not to fall.

His goal was to always make it to the NHL. In an interview earlier this season he spoke to DK Pittsburgh Sportswriter Taylor Hasse he mentioned this directly.

"My goal this year is to make the Pittsburgh Penguins. Whatever happens, happens. But I'm going to put my best foot forward and do what I can."

In his last game against the Carolina Hurricanes, he now has progressed to getting more playing time from head coach Mike Sullivan.

When Sully was asked about St. Ivany, he had some nice words for the rookie.

«We've really liked this game. He's a mobile guy, defends really well, he's got a good stick, (and) he's been helpful in the penalty kill. He thinks the game pretty well,» coach Mike Sullivan said. «He's defending the rush particularly well with his mobility and his stick. We've liked his game. That's why we've kept him in the lineup. He's a guy who's worked extremely hard to get to this point and is helping us, so we're really pleased with his progress.

Sullivan is not one to give out too much praise for a player who has yet to get more then three games played at the NHL level, but he knows what he has done in Wilkes-Barre, and St. Ivany's play has spoken for itself.
