So far this season there is one player who we have not seen on the ice as of yet, Phil Kessel. The once beloved forward with a killer wrist shot is still a UFA and available for teams to pick up and sign.

Kessel Helped Get the Golden Knights into the Playoffs Last Year and May be Able to Reignite that Glory Again

With the upcoming trade deadline, it is time that Kessel gets his chance to return to the NHL. Kessel did help the Golden Knights win a Stanley Cup last year, even though he did not see much playoff playing time. But he brings a veteran presence to a team that could be useful come the post-season.


The biggest concerns could be his conditioning, at 36-years-old he is definitely a step or two slower, and how long it would take for his to get in game shape. So, is it possible that Kessel can help a team like the Penguins?

Bringing in a Key Veteran Presence Amongst a Team of Veterans Can Be Valueable

The Penguins can offer Kessel one thing, familiarity. It was not too long ago that Phil Kessel helped the Penguins win back-to-back Stanley Cups. But can he live up to that former glory? The Penguins are already deep with veterans and still they are fighting to even make the playoffs. But he should be able to provide a presence on the ice with his wrist shot on a 3rd line that could be very helpful.

Kessel's Price tag May Be Something the Penguins Can Work With, Expecting League Minimum

The only thing it would cost the Penguins is money and cap space to bring him on. The Penguins are looking to make the playoffs, that was the reason to keep the core three together, one last shot.

Kessel can bring back into the mix that veteran depth in scoring. Something they seem to need very badly, with two back-to-back one goal loses this past weekend. The Penguins need all the help they can get at this point.
