The Capitals' captain Alex Ovechkin opened up on a potential trade out of Washington in a recent interview.

With the Caps' season officially over, Ovechkin made a major declaration regarding his place in the organization.

He made a surprising statement, saying he thought the Capitals would've traded him during the season.

Here's what he said:

"Yes, I was worried about being traded this season and I believed it would happen, but thank God, I am still a Capital. Honestly, this whole situation was tough for me."

Trading him wouldn't be an easy task. Not only does he have two years left on his $9,500,000 AAV contract, he has a no-trade clause. Taking into account his age and the fact that he slowed down in the past seasons, it would be surprising if teams showed interest on the market.

Ovi had a tough first half of the season, but bounced back after the All-Star Break. He ended the season with 31 goals and 34 assists in 79 games.

It is widely believed that he'll remain in Washington for the rest of his career. The Caps want to see him beat Wayne Gretzky's record with them. He only needs 41 more, so we can clearly imagine him reaching that mark before his contract ends.
