Former Penguin Coffey under investigation for inappropriate incident

Former Pittsburgh Penguin and current Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Paul Coffey is being investigated for inappropriate conduct during game one of round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs versus the Vancouver Canucks.

The incident took place on Wednesday night between Coffey and a Vancouver Canucks fan.



Coffey is taking heat for his hand gestures reportedly made towards the Canucks fan during the game. The Canucks fan was banging on the glass behind the Oilers' bench right where Coffey was standing at the time.




It was later found out that Coffey allegedly made a gesture towards the fans' turban that was "racist in nature." After some time, the fans were removed for banging on the glass.

This isn't Coffey's first incident where he's come under fire. However, it is his first notable one at the NHL level.



X (formerly Twitter) Oilers fan personality Captain Jack took to X to make a highly sarcastic comment but a more serious comment in the late half of the post. Captain Jack notes that cheering and banter is great until they lead to forceful removal.



The NHL is looking into these incidents and will make a decision hopefully soon. Additionally, lets hope the Oilers have a coach lined up to immediately take Coffey's place if it leads to termination.
