The Pittsburgh Penguins' lost again on Sunday but captain Sidney Crosby did his part, passing Wayne Gretzky on an all-time list in the process.

The Pens season might be skating on thin ice, Sid the kid isn't backing down. Despite some recent struggles, Crosby bounced back in a big way during the Penguins' matchup against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. He tallied two assists but also scored a goal himself, propelling the Penguins to a 3-0 lead and making history.

Sidney Crosby makes history Penguins loss to Avalanche

With his 584th career goal, Crosby surpassed none other than The Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky, for seventh place all-time in goals with one franchise.

Now, while Gretzky may hold the all-time record with 894 goals, 583 of those goals came during his time with the Edmonton Oilers before he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. Crosby, on the other hand, still has plenty of gas left in the tank and isn't planning on leaving the Penguins anytime soon, despite what rumors are swirling.

Crosby's second assist in the game also bumped him up the ladder of most all-time points at even strength, landing him in eighth place and climbing.

Unfortunately, despite Crosby's four point night, the Penguins couldn't hold on against the Avalanche. The other Nova Scotia native Nathan MacKinnon had four points too. Despite building a commanding 4-0 lead, they fell 5-4 in overtime, with Jonathan Drouin sealing the deal for Colorado.

So, while Crosby's milestone is definitely cause for celebration, the Penguins still have some work to do to turn their season around. They're sitting nine points back of the final playoff spot with a dozen games left. It's unlikely they get in, but that'll be their mindset as long as they're mathematically alive in the standings. They will keep believing with a 36 year-old Crosby leading the charge, with 34 goals and 73 points in 70 games, anything is possible.
