Mike Sullivan couldn't contain his excitement for the Penguins' recent performance. Saying:

I couldn't be happier for the players. I think they're having a lot of fun right now. They're competing. They're battling hard. It's not perfect, but I love our energy, our enthusiasm. Our compete level is fun to watch.

The Penguins prove him right in their 4-1 win against the Washington Capitals in DC. With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin off the scoresheet, it was time for some new faces to shine. Alex Nedjelkovic made a whopping 30 saves, Ryan Shea netted his first NHL goal, and Michael Bunting notched his fourth since joining the team in a trade. That victory brought the Penguins closer to securing a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with six games left.

Coach Sullivan had nothing but praise for Nedjelkovic

Ned is making the timely save for us. I can't say enough about his compete level and his composure.

Following this crucial win, the Penguins now find themselves just 2 points away from a playoff spot, a feat that seemed out of reach just weeks ago that seemed out of reach just weeks ago. Their current playoff chances are hovering around 20%, according to moneypuck.com, but they're not out of the woods yet.

Upcoming matches against tough opponents like the Lightning, Maple Leafs, and Bruins will test their mettle. However, the Penguins have the advantage of holding tiebreakers over their rivals for that coveted playoff position.

It's a tough road ahead, but as they say, difficult doesn't mean impossible. The Penguins are ready to fight tooth and nail to secure their spot in the postseason.
