Jake Guentzel is definitely one of the most coveted players on the trade market ahead of the deadline. In Pittsburgh, many believe he will be dealt with soon, as his contract his set to expire after the current season, the Penguins aren't in a playoff spot, and won't risk seeing him walking away for nothing this summer.
In a recent interview with The Athletic Guentzel talked about the rumors surrounding him, but most importantly, the impacts that being traded has on a player.Pittsburgh Penguins Forward Jake Guentzel Opens Up on The Possibility of Being Traded in New Interview
Guentzel openly discussed the possibility of leaving Pittsburgh in the next week.
He mentioned that hockey is a business and that every player realizes it at some point in their career. He also spoke about the importance of focusing on things you can control, his journey in Pittsburgh, and the adjustments players must make when they change teams.
Here's what he said:
"It's a business, and I think every player realizes that at some point. Don't get me wrong, it's a hard part of the business like, you kind of grow up with an organization, and then you don't know what's next. That's not fun for anyone.
I think you tell yourself to focus on what you can control. That's what I'm trying to do. But, yeah, that's not always easy to do, right? Like, it's not just about you and playing hockey. There's your family. People become friends. There's a community, you know?
I'm fortunate all of that has happened to me here. That's made it feel like home.
It's a lot more than you think it is. It's moving everything. You're changing your whole lifestyle. You're meeting a bunch of new people, and if you've got a family it's just a lot.
Then you've got to go play hockey, right? There's a different system, different guys to learn how to play with, where to go eat. It just seems a lot of organizations are different in every aspect. How teams travel is different. You've got to get new gear like, I don't like new gloves. That seems like a small thing, but I really don't like wearing new gloves. So, it's something you think about in the back of your mind.
It's a lot of adjustments if you're traded. And that's just from me seeing it happen for other guys."

It's obvious that leaving Pittsburgh will be tough on Guentzel. Fortunately, he won't have to wait much longer before finding out if he's being traded.
