Sidney Crosby will be heading into the last season of his contract in 2024. With this in mind, Crosby's extension talks have already begun. A new segment on the 32 Thoughts Podcast with Elliotte Friedman revealed what Crosby will likely be asking for on his next contract.





At this number, Crosby would be getting around a 2 million dollar raise from his current contract. It would lock him in with the Penguins until he reaches age 41 and likely retirement.

While it isn't a question that Crosby will be back with the Penguins at this point for the rest of his career is that the logical move?

Sid at the moment is over a point-per-game pace and the best player on the Penguins this season. Even in a down season for himself and the team, Crosby is playing at a superstar level. However, at some point, there will be a drop-off for Crosby as he ages. If the Penguins are going to keep competing they will need to find a way to surround Crosby with the best talent possible.'

Luckily for the Penguins, the salary cap is likely to continue going up in the coming years with the TV deal that was signed recently and the natural boost that expansion provides.

With this boost in the salary cap, Crosby's cap hit could be comparable as far as the percentage of cap taken up as his current contract. If this does end up being the case the Crosby extension is a no-brainer that will keep a franchise legend in Pittsburgh for his entire career.
