NHL Executive Says Price For Guentzel is Too High

With the Penguins playoff hopes slowly dying by the day, pending UFA Jake Guentzel name keeps appearing in trade rumours and discussions.

The reported price for him would be multiple first round picks, or prospect/roster players equivalent to that, a hefty price, but he would no doubt be the best player on the trade market and teams will pay for him. An executive from a rival NHL team said the price to acquire him is "ridiculous".

Just because Guentzel is almost at "superstar" status, it doesn't mean a trade will be easy to get done. According to Emily Kaplan from ESPN, teams feel the price may be too high for the American winger.



Also, with Guentzel out with injury, more teams may be hesitant to give up loads of pieces for an injury ridden player.


With players like Nick Foligno and Brandon Hagel fetching absolute hauls at the trade deadline for selling teams, there is no excuse and reason for GM Kyle Dubas to lower the asking price. Guentzel is a proven point per game player on a good team, and Dubas must negotiate with a hard head.
