The Pittsburgh Penguins' defenseman Erik Karlsson will represent Sweden at the upcoming World Championship.

Insider Chris Johnston shared the news in a post on X:

"Erik Karlsson is among the Swedish players to accept an invitation to the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championship."

Karlsson made the announcement in a video:

"Hello! Erik Karlsson here.

I've arrived at the World Championships this year in the Czech Republic. It's going to be incredibly fun and I'm very proud to wear the Tre Kronor jersey again. I'm looking forward to it immensely and I hope everyone back in Sweden is too. So hopefully, we'll see each other in the Czech Republic this year. Let's go!" *Translated from Swedish

Karlsson, 33, tallied 56 points in hs first season with the Penguins. It looks like he's ready for more hockey after falling short of the playoffs.

The Worlds Championship will be interesting to follow this year. With the Four-Nations Tournament and the Olympics set to go down in the next few years, many players who wouldn't have accepted invitations from their countries decided otherwise.

Sidney Crosby also announced he was considering to join Team Canada for the tournament.

More to come.
