This afternoon the Pittsburgh Penguins have made an exciting move calling up their top goaltending prospect Joel Blomqvist to the NHL roster. Joel Blomqvist joins the NHL roster after a stellar season in the AHL.

Today the Pittsburgh Penguins announced a pair of roster moves on X. The first was the call-up of goaltending prospect Joel Blomqvist to the NHL. In a corresponding move forward prospect Sam Poulin was sent back to the AHL.

The Penguins have recalled goaltender Joel Blomqvist from the @WBSPenguins.

Forward Sam Poulin has been re-assigned to WBS.

This call-up is a move that we thought could be on the horizon when we discussed Joel Blomqvist incredible AHL success. In 40 AHL games he has a 2.15 goals against average and a 0.919 save percentage. Penguins fans will get a good look at the future if and when Joel Blomqvist gets into a game.

His first opportunity could come as soon as tonight as the Penguins are set to face the New Jersey Devils.
