Sidney Crosby is having yet another elite offensive season, but is it time that the veteran superstar gets love for his play on the other end of the ice? The debate between Crosby and Ovechkin has gone on for years, but as both players have aged, it's become clear that No. 87 plays at an elite level on both ends, and 2023-24 may be his best season yet.
Despite being 36-years of age, Sidney Crosby has excelled once more this season, with the crew at Daily Faceoff singling out his defensive play this year, considering him a contender for the coveted Selke Trophy.Tyler Yaremchuk: Today we're on the Selke Trophy. It isn't always the sexiest award, but we'll have a new winner this year, as last year's winner in Patrice Bergeron retired before this season. Who are some of the frontrunners in your opinion?
Frank Seravalli: I'm going to give a healthy amount of props to Sidney Crosby. He's never won the Selke Trophy, and his best finish in voting was fourth. When you look at his season and how excellent it's been, it's more than just being one of the greatest seasons for a 36-year-old in NHL history

In 2023-24, Crosby is on pace for the most hits of his career, with 84 thus far, just six behind his career high along with a solid 33 blocked shots and has overall played a strong 200 foot game all season long. While he hasn't managed to will this ageing team back into the playoffs once again, Crosby has excelled defensively, and should be among the top three or four names for the Selke Trophy.
Patrice Bergeron has won the award five times dating back to 2014, and given that he's retired and no one has stepped up to separate themselves in the category, this may be Crosby's year to pick up a rare feat; winning an award that he's not yet won before.
