The Pittsburgh Penguins are back in the playoff race, and everyone in the Burgh talks about it.
With just ten days left in the regular season, the Penguins are fighting tooth and nail for one of the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. Thanks to a wild weekend of hockey across the league, their destiny is now in their own hands. If the Penguins win their remaining five games, they're punching their ticket to the playoffs, no questions asked. Plus, if they can snag a regulation win against the New York Islanders to wrap up the season, they're locking in a solid third-place finish in the Metropolitan division.
Just two weeks ago, things weren't looking so hot for the Penguins. They were nine points out of a playoff spot and hanging on by a thread. Fast forward to now, and they've won six out of their last seven games, ultimately turning the tide.
Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, who will make his eighth straight start on Monday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sidney Crosby, summer acquisition Erik Karlsson, and Evgeni Malkin, has been leading the charge. Yet let's not overlook the unsung heroes; Michael Bunting, Jack St. Ivany, and Ryan Shea have stepped up big time when it matters most.
Now, it's not just about the Penguins stepping up it's also about the competition faltering. The Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers have been on a cold streaks lately, while the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals have struggled to find their footing.
With just two weeks left in the regular season, all eyes are on the Penguins as they look to secure their spot in the postseason. Let's see if they can finish the job and make some playoff magic happen!
