Mike Sullivan Addresses Media Regarding Newest Acquisition

The Pittsburgh Penguins recently made a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets where the team added 24-year-old forward Emil Bemstrom. Today, head coach Mike Sullivan answered a few questions about him.

Sullivan Addressed Media About Penguins Recent Trade Acquisition

While the trade was largely seen as a minor depth move, Sullivan seems to believe that Bemstrom could be a significant contributor to the team. He praised his offensive game, particularly his shot, which he explicitly mentioned more than once in the media availability. He also talked about how he can help the team on the power play. Notably, the Penguins have had one of the worst powerplay units in the entire league this season.

Bemstrom Participates In First Practice With Penguins

Today was just Sullivan's first chance to see Bemstrom on the ice as the 24-year-old skated in his first practice with the team this morning.


The Young forward had 5 goals and 11 points in 32 games with the Blue jackets this season. He has regularly gotten time in the NHL since the 2019-20 season, but his career high in games played is just 56. He's played in 204 games total, scoring 31 goals and 69 points in the process.


Hopefully, the forward can help the Penguins figure out their powerplay as the team is desperate for positive momentum heading into the trade deadline.
