Penguins reportedly the front runner to land Mitch Marner

After a disappointing season, Mitch Marner may be on the way out of Toronto, and it appears Kyle Dubas may have interest in acquiring his former star.

With time potentially running out on the career's of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to be aggressive this summer in acquiring pieces to help them on one last Cup run. Now, their newest target may have been revealed, as The Hockey News have listed the Penguins as the front runner to land Mitch Marner if he is traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs.


It may cost Pittsburgh a defenseman, and it's unclear who that would be, along with several other assets, it could be the move that pushes them back into the playoffs, especially given Marner's regular season acumen over recent years.




At this point in time, it's too early to know whether Marner would waive his NMC for a move to Pittsburgh or whether or not the team will ultimately ask, but if they do, it makes sense for both parties, with fans of both teams likely to embrace the move.



Sure, his playoff performances have left plenty to be desired, but given what we've seen Pittsburgh's core do when the lights are on brightest, it would be the best situation for him, so keep a close eye on this potential deal moving into the summer.
