As the WHL season drew to a close, two Penguins prospects were honoured on their respective division's all star teams.

Penguins Prospects Owen Pickering and Brayden Yager Make WHL All-Star Teams

Recently, the WHL announced the first and second all star teams as the reason came to a close. Two Penguins prospects were given the honor.

Owen Pickering Named to WHL Central Division First All-Star Team

The first prospect to make the year end All-Star team was Swift Current Broncos Defenseman Owen Pickering.

Pickering is a big defenseman who logs huge minutes for Swift Current. As the captain of the team he posted 46 points in 59 games and helped the Broncos finish 2nd in the Eastern Conference. Pickering was selected 21st overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Hopefully he can get some experience at the professional level soon, so that he can someday join the Penguins and help the rebuilding process.

Brayden Yager Named to the WHL East Division Second All-Star Team

Yager is currently the highest ranked prospect in the Penguins system and was selected in the first round at 14th overall in 2023. Yager is a dynamic forward who has developed quite the scoring touch on a loaded Moose Jaw Warriors team which included multiple first team all-stars.

Through 57 games he has scored a spectacular 95 points this season as an assistant captain. This was good enough to land him tied for second on the team in points. He tied with the undrafted Atlee Calvert (95) and Jagger Firkus, a Seattle Draft pick who had 126 points.

It's amazing to see these prospects excelling and I hope that they will be a big part of the Penguins future.

Details to follow.
