Sidney Crosby is back on track to make history once again after his 3-point performance against the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena

No matter what the season outcome for the Penguins will be, you can count on Sidney Crosby to always give it his all. It was not too long ago when it seemed like the captain was throwing in the towel. He had zero goals in 11 games, and during that time only 6 assists. It was during this time that it was doubtful that Crosby would be able to match Gretzky's historic run.

But during his last two games against Colorado and last night against the Carolina Hurricanes, the captain put up two goals and five assists, giving him seven points during those two games.

It was during the Colorado game that Crosby made more history, as Sid passed Gretzky with 584 goals in a season for one franchise as well as moved to seventh place all time in points at even strength in the NHL.

But with his production these last two games, Sid is back in the running to match another one of Wayne Gretzky's records.

If Crosby is able to continue the season with a point-per-game production, he will be able to tie Gretzky for the most points per game seasons in the NHL with 19. The number of points Crosby needs to hit this feat is only six, giving him the magic number of 82 points.

Crosby clinched his 18th season with a point per game average last year on March 16th.

With the way the Penguins and Crosby have been playing this week, this historic achievement seems to be back in the sight.
