Penguins prospect goes down with injury

Pittsburgh Penguins prospect acquired in the Jake Guentzel trade, Vasily Ponomarev will be out of action for a few weeks after suffering an injury in the AHL.

The highly anticipated call-up for Vasily Ponomarev has been called off due to an injury suffered in a match where he suited up for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton.

During his first stretch within the Penguins organization, Ponomarev recored 1 goal in his first four games.

According to Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey, Ponomarev was an early departure when the WBS Penguins took on the Syracuse Crunch. Androckitis says this injury must carry more severity since injuries are often labeled as day-to-day.

Ponomarev had a brief stinct in the NHL where he recored two points in two NHL games with his former team the Carolina Hurricanes.
